03.16.19 Lions Eye Across California Outreach

On March 16th, the Asian Pacific Health Foundation partnered with the San Diego Lions Club to host a health fair in Lemon Grove. The Lions Club is a distinguished service organization that we have had the honor of working with in various outreaches in the past as they share a similar mission to provide important services to underserved communities in the San Diego area. The Asian Pacific Health Foundation provided free screenings for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and obesity. The Lions Club provided free vision screenings and eyeglasses. Together we were able to deliver these healthcare services to the people of Lemon Grove, a community we had yet to target.

We had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Araneta, Assistant Dean of Diversity and Community Partnerships at UCSD School of Medicine, and her mentee Keni Lasitani, a second year medical student at UCSD School of Medicine, about their mission to educate others about Hepatitis B amongst Pacific Islander communities. The Asian Pacific Health Foundation’s chairman (Dr. Truong), medical director (Dr. Gish), executive director (Dr. Giang), and program director (Dr. Tran) also attended the event.

A special thank you to Helen from the San Diego Executive Lions Club and her team for offering us this amazing opportunity to serve the community. We extend our gratitude to all of the staff, UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy students, and undergraduate students who helped make this a successful event!
