11.19.19 Continuing Medical Education Program

On November 16th, 2019, the Asian Pacific Health Foundation (APHF) partnered with a leading biotechnology company, Gilead Sciences to host a Continuing Education Program.  Light refreshments with a continental breakfast and delicious lunch were served at Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the HSEC Auditorium on the UCSD campus (9500 Gilman Dr, La Jolla, CA 92093) on November 16th, 2019. The distinctive program was a huge  success, with excellent speakers, presenters and attendance of health professionals and health students.

We would like to thank our speakers, Dr. Robert Gish, MD and Dr. Naveen Gara, MD. A special thank you to our keynote speaker, Dr. Danh Truong, MD chairman of APHF Board of Directors, who began the event with an inspirational speech.. Dr. Naveen Gara, a gastroenterology specialist, started the discussion about Non Alcoholic Steato-Hepatitis (NASH) with an informational overview. Dr. Robert Gish, a globally recognized expert on hepatitis, continued with two presentations: one on diagnostic and treatment implications in Non-Alcoholic Steato-Hepatitis versus Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD); and the second presentation on  HBV diagnostics and the new findings on other viral hepatitis A, C, D, E, in the baffling field of silent diseases.

A break was provided after every presentation to allow participants to visit the exhibits and exchange information with APHF’s supporters: Dawn Moore of Gilead Sciences, Peggy Beers of American Liver Foundation, and Esther of Sulistio Insurance company.

The Continuing Education for Pharmacists was realized via UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences California Accreditation for Pharmacists Education (CAPE) program. We thank Dr. Douglas Humber and Dean James McKerrow for approving 3 CE units.

We appreciate the tremendous efforts of our volunteer team members in carrying all aspects of the program: Tram Nguyen, PharmD and Kayla Giang, PharmD worked together to moderate the talks, while David Lam (Program Coordinator), Nguyen Vo  and Vivian Ngo (Program Managers - Clinical), Tam Ho (Fundraising Manager), Gian Dino and Winnie Gong (Program Interns) ensured a super smooth execution of the event. Dr. Binh Tran secured funding from Gilead Sciences. Some of our team members were unable to attend, but their behind-the-scenes work was no less important to the success of the event: Kevin Lam, James Pham, and Thu Vuong have our gratitude.

Our organization always appreciates the generosity and involvement of people like you, with every contribution going towards making Asian Pacific Health Foundation an even better Nonprofit Organization than it already is.
