04.16.19 Poster Evaluation on SSPPS Hepatitis Elective Course

On Tuesday, April 16, 2019, from 3 to 3:45pm, Dr. Binh Tran and Dr. Kayla Giang were the poster evaluators for Hepatitis A, B, and C topics for the SSPPS Hepatitis Elective course at the UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The purpose of the poster presentation activity is to allow students to have hands-on experience in creating a poster, developing a depth of knowledge about the disease, and strengthening presentation skills.

Drs. Binh Tran and Kayla Giang are Directors of the Asian Pacific Health Foundation, a non-profit organization that works to advance health and wellness for the vulnerable groups in San Diego by providing health education and free community health screenings for hepatitis B and C, diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol disorders and osteoporosis at community centers. They have participated in this course over many years and enjoyed planning the course with Dr. Shirley Tsunoda, course leader of the SSPPS Hepatitis Elective. On April 16, Karla Jorgensen Ponce, SSPPS Pharmacy student, the course facilitator, did a fantastic job in coordinating all the presentations.

  • Norint Tung, SSPPS Pharmacy Student, presented Viral Hepatitis A

  • Nguyen Vo, SSPPS Pharmacy student, presented Viral Hepatitis B

  • Kenneth (Khanh) Nguyen, SSPPS Pharmacy student, presented Hepatitis C (PowerPoint Poster)

  • Casey Tiefenthaler, SSPPS Pharmacy student, presented Hepatitis C (Trifold Corrugated Poster)

The students did a great job in presenting the diseases. More importantly, the presentations spurred discussions and gave their peers an opportunity to learn the topics in greater depth.
