APHF’s First Collaboration with MEMO and a New Office

APHF had a successful screening event at MEMO'S (Medical, Educational Missions and Outreach) 4th Annual City Heights Health Fair at Copley Price Family YMCA in City Heights (4300 El Cajon Blvd. San Diego, CA 92105) on Saturday 1/19/2019. This was our first health event of 2019 and the first-time we collaborated with the MEMO team. Our station was filled with participants; interest was so high that we stayed over an hour after the health event ended to continue screening patients. We were the last team to leave. Many late-comers took note of our schedule of upcoming events so they could participate in the future. Half of our patients were non-English Hispanic speakers; we were fortunate to have volunteers fluent in Spanish to assist these patients.

The mission of APHF is to advance health and wellness for the vulnerable groups in San Diego and Imperial Counties by providing health education and free community health screenings for hepatitis B and C, diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol disorders and osteoporosis at community centers. Many thanks to Kaitlyn Quach, the Outreach Chair for MEMO at UC San Diego, for inviting APHF to be part of the event. Our relationship with community leaders is a vital component of APHF’s mission, and this collaboration was a model for the successful offerings of APHF services in community events. APHF is grateful to have strong support from the community leaders and committed team members.

Thank you to APHF members who came out to support this event:

  • Robert Gish, MD, APHF Medical Director

  • Kayla Giang, PharmD, APHF Executive Director

  • Binh Tran, PharmD, APHF Program Director

  • Nguyen Vo, APHF Program Manager, UCSD SSPPS P1

  • James Cordero, APHF Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator

  • Vivian Ngo, APHF Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator

This health fair is also the first screening event after the APHF office moved to a new location (4445 Eastgate Mall, Suite 200. San Diego, CA 92121). The team gathered at the new office for a group photo to commemorate the occasion.

Please feel free to spread the word about our activities!

Thank you,

Kayla Giang, Pharm.D.
